THE CLIMATIC IDENTITY

The 2018 vintage was marked by balance and smooth physiological development. Unlike the thermal pressure experienced in 2017, the conditions of 2018 enabled the Samos terroir to demonstrate precision and linearity, resulting in notable aromatic transparency.

WINTER & SPRING: Hydrological Adequacy & Stability

Winter conditions were moderately wet, ensuring adequate water reserves in the schistose subsoil. The absence of extreme temperature events contributed to a stable spring and uniform flowering across all elevations.

Viticultural Action: Vineyard Microbiome Management

Stable climatic conditions allowed a focused approach on maintaining vineyard biodiversity and microbial stability. Technical exchanges with Vi.Te group producers, including Camillo Donati, reinforced the strategy of avoiding synthetic chemical interventions. This approach supported a stable vineyard microbial ecosystem on the fruit surface, providing favourable conditions for the progression of spontaneous fermentation.

SUMMER: Slow Ripening

The summer of 2018 was notable for the absence of prolonged heatwaves, which permitted an extended ripening period. This resulted in optimal phenolic maturity without a rapid increase in sugar concentration (Baumé).

Canopy Management & Acidity

Canopy management practices were implemented to limit potassium accumulation in the berries, therefore supporting the preservation of natural acidity and maintaining low pH levels. This resulted in musts defined by precision and aromatic clarity.

HARVEST: Altitude & Strategic Delay

Harvesting began in late September under optimal sanitary conditions, producing fruit with thick skins and elevated aromatic potential.

A critical viticultural decision was required at the highest elevations. In the vineyard at 950 metres, rainfall in early October required a temporary harvest delay. This pause allowed for natural surface drying and for the fruit to recover concentration and phenolic balance following rainfall. Harvesting concluded on 20 October, with grapes showing restored concentration and strong phenolic definition.

THE 2018 PROFILE

The 2018 wines are distinguished by finesse and aromatic clarity. Unlike the structural density of 2017, the 2018 vintage exhibits an ethereal character, with pronounced notes of white flowers and a saline finish. This vintage is defined by clarity, precision, and technical integrity.
