Technical Harvest Report and Viticultural Analysis From Samos

THE CLIMATIC IDENTITY
The 2019 vintage followed a classic Mediterranean seasonal pattern, which led to balanced vine development and significant phenolic accumulation. In contrast to the precision-driven transparency of 2018, the 2019 wines display greater weight, structural depth, and phenolic density, while retaining the distinctive schist-influenced tension of the island’s terroir.
WINTER & SPRING: High Hydrological Input & Delayed Budbreak

The winter of 2019 was notably wet, replenishing soil water reserves in the schistose subsoil. Low temperatures persisted throughout March, delaying budbreak slightly and reducing the risk of early frost.
Viticultural Action: Soil & Canopy Management Under High Moisture Conditions
Elevated soil moisture during winter and early spring necessitated systematic management of spontaneous vegetation to minimise competition with the vines. The avoidance of synthetic chemical interventions promoted ecological stability in the vineyard, sustaining a functional and active microbial ecosystem throughout the growing season.
SUMMER: Stable Heat & Controlled Water Stress
The summer was warm and typically Mediterranean, with few prolonged heatwave events. Residual soil moisture from winter precipitation enabled the vines to avoid severe water stress while maintaining adequate physiological pressure to support phenolic development.

Canopy Management & Acid Balance
Canopy management prioritised balancing leaf area to optimise photosynthetic activity and ensure sufficient ventilation of the fruit zone. This strategy preserved natural acidity and moderated sugar accumulation during ripening.
HARVEST: Concentration & Altitude Differentiation

Harvest operations were conducted with precision throughout diverse elevations. Grapes arrived at the winery exhibiting strong concentration and well-developed phenolic structure.
At higher altitude vineyards, significant diurnal temperature variation contributed to more gradual ripening kinetics and the development of pronounced acidity, which balanced the increased phenolic maturity.THE 2019 PROFILE
The 2019 wines are distinguished by their structure, complexity, and depth. They display pronounced ripe citrus aromatics, a firm phenolic backbone, and a persistent saline-driven finish. This vintage demonstrates the capacity of Muscat of Samos to integrate aromatic intensity with ageing potential and structural integrity.
